Care for Community will act as a matchmaker between organizations and volunteers
OAK BLUFFS, MA. (March 19, 2020) – MV Community Services (MVCS), in collaboration with Island Grown Initiative and the Vineyard Food Equity Network, announces the launch of Care For Community, a volunteer coordination program to support Martha’s Vineyard organizations in need of volunteers to continue daily operations.
Care for Community is actively working to ensure that the organizations that provide food to those who cannot access or afford it are still able to operate. All Island nonprofits are eligible to participate.
“Collaboration and coordination of services will be key to the Island’s ability to address the growing need for access to food by those impacted by this pandemic,” said Rebecca Haag, executive director of Island Grown Initiative. “Once again, MVCS has stepped up to meet that challenge and offered its staff and resources to solve a problem.”
Organizations across Martha’s Vineyard with opportunities or needs for volunteers are asked to submit an organization form via a new webpage hosted by MVCS. Community members looking to volunteer for COVID-19 efforts are asked to fill out a separate volunteer form, selecting the organizations and/or categories for which they are qualified to volunteer. MVCS will collect and parse the data, matching organizations with qualifying volunteers.
“Our Island community consistently steps up to support each other in times of need, and this time is no different,” said Julie Fay, executive director of MV Community Services. “Together we will do everything we can to make sure our most vulnerable populations receive support during this difficult time.”
