Wing Foiling Around Martha’s Vineyard: Support Nevin Sayre’s Personal Challenge
Vineyard Haven resident, Nevin Sayre, once again is looking to complete the ‘Round the Vineyard Challenge’ to support Martha’s Vineyard Community Services (MVCS)! Sayre, a Pro Windsurfing Champion, Four-time Collegiate Sailing All-American, and inaugural inductee into the Windsurfing Hall of Fame was the first person to complete the arduous Vineyard rounding on a wing foil in 2024, and again in 2025 to benefit MVCS. This year he is hoping to raise $55,000 for MVCS – $1000 per mile for the 55 miles around Martha’s Vineyard (as the crow flies). The total distance sailed is likely 80-100 miles with tacking and jibing.
For twenty years (1988-2008) Nevin organized the Vineyard Windsurfing Challenge, an annual race held on traditional windsurfers, to benefit MVCS. Now he is doing it on a wing foil- a new form of windsurfing that is distinguished by an underwater hydrofoil and a completely hand held “wing” (sail).
Per Nevin, “100 percent of the sponsorship and support I receive will go directly to services and programs at Community Services. I hope the island will show a strong spirit of support for this organization that means so much to thousands of islanders.” – Over the last 2 years, Nevin’s Round the Vineyard Challenge has raised more than $100,000 for Islanders in need.

On the day the event takes place, real time position tracking will be available via GPS, and updates and viewing points will be shared through social media so that islanders can follow Nevin’s progress in real time. Anticipated date between August 10th and September 10th (actual date and time weather dependent).
